No babies yet

It’s been a few days without an entry; I don’t want anyone thinking that I’m in labor!  (I now know that I can’t even joke about such things — you gullible people think we put an apostrophe, Q, X, and a hyphen in our child’s name.)

We went to the doctor’s yesterday for a regular visit.  Once again, I was deemed the model patient.  I may have had to put the words in her mouth, but all that matters is that she agreed.  My weight gain appears to have capped at 20lb, which is quite excellent by pregnancy standards, and my vital stats are all in great shape.  She did an internal exam and determined that baby is well on her way to making a grand entrance into this world.  I’m already 2cm dilated, which doesn’t mean that I’m ready to go necessarily, but it means that my body is definitely preparing for some good birthing in the near future.  Chris was just about ready to burst with excitement when he heard this news.

We were at the mall over the weekend and found her the perfect coming-home dress.  It’s so darn sweet…can’t wait to see her in it.

Other good news: we finally found a glider!  We had searched every place we could think of — furniture stores, baby stores, eBay, Target, general online searches — and it was futile.  A white glider with pink cushions simply didn’t exist.  Yet somehow, we stumbled upon exactly what we wanted at WalMart online for about $150.  We couldn’t believe it!  We were about to settle for a brown and tan glider that cost $300.  We (er, Chris) put it together tonight and it’s absolutely perfect.  Finally!  The last piece of the room has arrived.

When Chris arrived at work this morning, he found a surprise waiting for him: all of his coworkers were crowded iimg_1694nto his office and had a little baby shower for him!  Cake, balloons, gifts, and good cheer.  They felt it was time that Daddy got some love; everything is always about Mom and Baby.  They were very thoughtful in their gift-giving and also made a really cool baby-carriage cake.  (I saw the cake from the wrong angle and didn’t notice what it was supposed to be, so I dumbly said, “Why is 1/4 of the cake missing?”  They all groaned at my stupidity and turned it so I could see that it was, DUH, a baby carriage.  AHH!  Way cool.)  Stephanie was saying that she had planned to hide under Chris’s desk to surprise him…at which point everyone started to envision just how surprising that would be…Stephanie finally had to leave the office in a nice blush.

The only bad news lately has been Grandma Ann: she fell on the basement stairs a few days ago and did an excellent job of beating herself up.  A few broken bones in her foot, a seriously scraped up knee, a sore rib, broken glasses, and a pretty shiner.  Dang!  We spent yesterday going to doctors and the hospital for X-rays.  Mom had more appointments today and we learned that she has to have surgery on her foot on Monday.  Well!  It’s going to be hard to chase after a baby while in a boot cast, but I’m sure it can be done.

How absolutely friggin’ exciting (all of it)!!! Finding your glider – yay! Baby E doing what she’s supposed to join us in this world (double-yay!) A surprise baby shower for Chris (how sweet of his co-workers – triple yay!) A mere 20 pound gain (you are so lucky – you are the envy of all pregnant women!)
I can’t wait to get that phone call that says “She’s arrived! And we’re pleased to introduce you to our little girl, Baby _____”.

Not so yay – your Mom’s tumble. I hope she recuperates quickly and heals up well. We know how cumbersome those foot problems can be.

Keep up the great work and stay off the ice!
    Love and Peace

Hi there!! When I said on my phone message last night that “I just loved your blog” your dad said obviously I hadn’t read this one… Which I admit, I hadn’t.. Amazing how days fly by in a blur when one is busy!!! Poor Ann!! From being so graceful myself, I KNOW way more than I want to about broken bones in a foot. However, with foot surgery & physical therapy afterwards, my foot is as good as my other one… I’m still NOT graceful, however!! Best wishes for a speedy recovery from us!!

Your dad wants to know if there is a baby “name pool” yet??? He is feeling very confident about “CHRISTINA” for obvious reasons having to do with your adorable husband…

    XOXO Dad & Charlene

I think Christina is a great idea from your dad. As for Cousin Cindy, Grace Ann with Grandmother Grace in the family line is a thought. But it certainly fits gramma Ann, very funny, Cindy!! ;)

I’ve left 3 comments this time around and think I need to consolidate! The very pink and white glider is perfect. It seems you are all set now. And the shower for Chris was wonderful. 2 cm dialated. Just remember how fast I delivered and be prepared!! I was 2 1/2 hours with Tracy and 2 hours with Elizabeth.
