I’m not going to name names, but someone wouldn’t let me take a picture of the following event, which was so darn sweet that it required picture-taking.  Alas….

On Saturday morning, after a good night of sleep, everyone was feeling relaxed and lazy.  The dogs had gone outside and taken care of business; Emily was fed and freshly diapered; Chris and I were moderately awake and refreshed.  Chris was lying in bed with a dog flanking either side of him (under the covers, of course — dachshunds are known for their burrowing skills) and I laid Emily in there, too, while I polished my fangs and attempted to tame my ‘fro.  I came back in to find Emily contentedly nestled in Daddy’s armpit, blankets up to her chest with her little arms outside and her head on Chris’s shoulder, with her right hand over her head absently massaging Chris’s goatee.  Chris was half awake, enjoying the solitude, and both dogs were sound asleep.  Emily was really the only one who was wide awake.  She was thrilled with her warm location and her new “toy” full of tactile stimulation.

These are the moments that make all of the chaos worthwhile.
